Samuel E. Orebaugh,

Brother
Orebaugh was born in Girard, Kansas in 1903 He moved to
Des Moines early in his life and graduated from West Des
Moines High School and Drake University, where he was an
all American Quarterback.
He practiced law in Des Moines, was a member of the Iowa
House of Representatives, chief deputy for the Iowa
Insurance Commission and was President of Life Investors
Insurance Co. of America.
Bro. Sam was a 50 year member of Acanthus Lodge No. 632, a
member of the York Rite Bodies, High Twelve International
and served as Potentate of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He became a
Master of the Royal Secret in the Des Moines Scottish Rite
Bodies in 1938 and was invested with the Knight Commander
Court of Honour in 1953. Around 1950, Bro. Orebaugh was
instrumental in getting the 22nd degree exemplified in the
Des Moines Valley because he thought it was important that
labor and management have a better understanding of each
other. To him, Scottish Rite was the perfect place to
assist in this understanding.

Herbert W. Vetter, 32

Bro.
Vetter was born in Watertown, South Dakota, and lived in
Des Moines most of his life. After working for the City of
Des Moines in the Building Department he became President
of the Iowa Credit Union League.
He later
served as Administrator of Hillcrest Hospital and was the
first Administrator of Scottish Rite Park.
Recognized by his peers as a leader, Bro. Herb served as
President of Drake University Alumni Association, was one
of the founders of the Mid-West District Credit Union
Conference, serving as Secretary & President and a founder
of the International Association of Credit Union League
Executives, also serving as President.
Masonically, Bro. Herb was raised in Acanthus Lodge No.
632 in 1954. He became a Master of the Royal Secret in
1970 and was invested with the Knight Commander Court of
Honour in 1979.
Bro. Herb died May 24, 1996.
